After completing her BA (hons) Degree in Fine Art in 1993 at University of East London, Julia was keen to return to her roots in Yorkshire, where she loves the open skies and colourful curves of the landscape. Here, she draws inspiration for her paintings.
Having spent many years working in oils on canvas, Julia is now interested in exploring a wider range of media, such as inks, acrylics, texture mediums and collage. Her current concern is with the process of artmaking, keeping her focus 'in the moment' and working as instinctively as possible. She believes this will help her to maintain a fresh and vibrant feel to her paintings, that might otherwise be lost with too much attention towards the 'desired' end result. Using a variety of media and mark-making tools assists in this process.
